Proudly owning a Kitchen Knife These days
My Mother and Dad when I was growing up had this type of mixed-up-set of different kitchen knives it was incredible. There really was absolutely no rhyme or reason for this whatsoever. When you opened the kitchen knife drawer you really didn’t know what you might find. It just didn’t seem to matter. I’m sure a large part of this was that they simply could not manage to go out and purchase kitchen cutlery. Besides both my mother and dad were excellent cooks and increased 5 kids in the process. Along with my brothers. Sister and I all learned how to cook also. (using the identical pair of knives) How did we do it with such poor cutlery? Ha! I must laugh at that word, cutlery. It likely wasn’t even in our language back then. I think we just made do with what we had like many other people. Also owning good cutlery just wasn’t common.
Well, like everything else on the planet, things change. You don’t see people smoking as much. And you’ve got high cholesterol. And having a good kitchen knife or a kitchen knife collection today is not uncommon. Surely the infomercials between the Ginsu knife” had as much do to with how people seen kitchen knives as anything else. I’m sure that you can remember some of those almost comical phrases like”how far do you pay. . .don’t answer” or”but wait there is more” Certainly that is only a small part of how we believe and use kitchen knives.
As many cooking shows became popular (including shows from the”food system”) the popularity of owning different types of kitchen knives also became popular. Certainly each show because it required you through different meals being prepared the chef could clarify about the form of knife used and why. This opened up a whole new universe of not only cooking but also kitchen knife usage. This was huge in helping people find”distinct” kinds of knives. More than you visit specialty stores specializing in selling only kitchen type accessories. Hogue Deka Review aided the idea of owning very good cutlery.
We learned that you actually had a distinct knife to slice bread. A boning knife. A paring knife. Along with the ever popular”chefs knife” If you speak about a chefs knife you truly don’t know where to start and where to end. There are lots of, many forms. But we probably own one. Also popular are whole kitchen knife sets that are utilized using a wooden block and are kept right on the counter top. Also you have sets of steak knives available also. That is laughable. When mother and dad served steak back then, it was every man for himself finding a knife.
